Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic Recognizes the Entourage.
Following is an article printed in the Aurora Newsletter Summer 2010 Volume3, issue 2.
Thank You to the Entourage Salon. by Carol Huibregste, RN, BSN, Cancer Nurse Navigator
Earlier this year, Janelle, owner and manager of Entourage Salon and Spa, contacted the staff at the VLCC with a simple question: What can we do to help your cancer patients?
After touring the VLCC, Janelle saw the wigs that were in
the cabinets in the bathroom. Imagine her face when she saw the wigs- packed away in plastic totes and / or plastic bags!
A nightmare to a cosmotologist ! And in the bathroom? Immediately, Janelle took some wigs back to her salon
and gave them to Kim. Kim is one of the stylists at the Entourage who has been specially trained in hair prosthesis - fitting, ordering, cleaning, styling, etc.
The wigs have been donated by patients and/or companies
in wig care services (i.e. Paula Young, TLC). Some of
them even had tags on yet! When the first set of wigs were returned, we could'nt believe that they were the same wigs
that left this building a few weeks prior. They were washed, trimmed, and styled! These wigs are now available Free of Charge to patients at VLCC.
The Paletree Staff Action Commitee at the VLCC realized
that we could not expect patients to look at wigs in the bathroom and the decision was made to display the wigs in
the Resource Center. New mannequins were purchased to display the wigs (instead of styrofoam heads).
In addition, the Entourage has two employees volunteer
to come to the VLCC on the second Tuesday of the month
to give free hand massages to patients and / or their support partners. Why not get a little pampered?
So Thank you Janelle and the Entourage employees!
For thinking of our facility and donating your time and
skills to help our patients. What a difference you have
made in some of our patients' lives!
